CREATIVE INDUSTRY

CREATIVE INDUSTRIES & KIBS

New research has identified that creativity will become even more important to the growth of jobs between now and 2030 ( NESTA ). The fastest growing economic sector, and most productive, of most developed economies is one that is formed from the creative industry sectors, such as;

  • Advertising

  • Architecture

  • Arts

  • Crafts

  • Design

  • Fashion

  • Video, Film and Photography

  • Music

  • Publishing

  • Software

  • Radio and TV

Collectively, these sectors is commonly referred to as the 'Creative Industries'. DNA.city calculate the sectors of Creative Industry by using 65 categories of the 2007 SIC (Standard Industry Classification), which is modified from the 2003 SIC used by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) in their definition of creative industries.

In addition to the creative industries we also analyse the Knowledge Intensive Business Services (KIBS) representation. KIBS services and business operations are heavily reliant on professional knowledge. They are mainly concerned with providing knowledge-intensive support for the business processes of other organizations and are an extremely valuable element in local economies. Both the Creative Industries and KIBS sectors make up the fastest growing and productive elements of a local economy.

At DNA.city we have developed a methodology that uses correlation and weighting tables produced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS UK), to convert the latest Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES) data to recognised categories of Creative, KIBS and High-Technology Manufacturing industries.

This data allows us to analyse the volume and location of this type of industry in your city, town or place, information that is vital to local economic development programs.
